ThermoWood is not a timber species but the end product of heat-treated timber.
This type of timber uses softwood that grows quickly, and in abundance which would not be suitable for outdoor use in its original state. The timber undergoes a heat treatment process, which dries almost all of the moisture from the raw material. This changes the cellular structure of the timber to increase its durability, making it suitable for external use.
To stop the wood becoming brittle, a set amount of moisture is added back into the timber creating a high performance, durable product from timber unsuitable for external use.
All of our ThermoWood is PEFC certified.
