Yellow Balau Hardwood Decking
Yellow Balau (pronounced Bal-Ow) - Bangkirai - is a very durable hardwood and one of the most popular species in the UK for hardwood decking. It's a hard, heavy and strong timber that is well suited to deck construction and has full FSC certification. With a mixture of warm colours of golden browns, light browns and pale reddish-browns, Yellow Balau offers a unique colour range which will sit beautifully within a natural environment.
Yellow Balau decking has an interlocking grain, fine uniform texture and a surface that is almost entirely free of knots and other natural defects. Occasional pinhole and hit and miss is acceptable within the grading rules of Yellow Balau decking.
Only the highest quality timber is used in the production of our Yellow Balau decking, so you can be assured that you are buying a consistent high standard and better grade decking product. It is sustainably sourced from well managed forests and supplied with full FSC chain of custody certification.

Timber is a beautiful, natural and versatile material that cannot be replicated by any man made product. It is the only building material that is naturally renewable and truly sustainable.
Timber is manufactured from trees which have developed naturally and responsively to their environment. Being a 100% natural product it varies from one piece to another, each having variations in grain patterns and colour.
We understand that for the uninitiated, buying timber can be a daunting process, so this section of the website has been written with the novice in mind. We’ve attempted to explain how and why timber is graded and what to expect when you receive a delivery of timber from us. We’ve also included relevant sections from the grading rules, and to help you understand these rules, we’ve included definitions of natural characteristics and manufacturing irregularities. By the time you have read and digested all this, you will probably know more about the subject than most of the staff at your local timber merchant!
Whilst there is no doubting the importance of grading rules, it should be stated that the same grade can differ from one supplier to the next, just as the quality of apples will differ from one greengrocer to the next. Here at Silva we’ve gone to great lengths to source the very best products available. Rather than buying on an ‘ad-hoc’ basis from a series of different suppliers we prefer to form long term relationships with reliable mills that focus on quality and consistency.
We are confident in the quality of our products and we want you to be confident with your purchase, which is why we invite you to visit our premises in Widnes to see our products first hand before placing an order. We even encourage you to visit our competitors first so that you can compare our quality to theirs.

Our economy delivery service uses our own delivery vehicles and is available in selected postcode areas only. Orders are grouped with others within specific regions and scheduled accordingly. This allows us to provide a significantly lower delivery rate. We endeavour to despatch your order as quickly as possible, however the date can vary depending on other orders in your area, up to a maximum of 14 days. Feel free to contact our customer support team on T: 0151 541 5485 for an estimated delivery date prior to ordering.
If you require your order urgently we are able to deliver via an independent haulier within 5-7 working days (factory coated orders may take a little longer). Once your order has been placed online, a member of our customer support team will contact you by phone to arrange a convenient delivery day and discuss your requirements. Deliveries usually take place between Monday & Friday between 8am and 6pm.
Deliveries to Northern Ireland, Orkney Islands, Argyll & Bute, Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man and Shetland Islands use our specialist delivery service. Delivery charges are calculated by the number of pallet spaces taken up by the load.
A pallet space is 1.22 metres or part thereof. The number of pallet spaces taken is determined by the longest item on the order. For example, if you order 2.44 metre long deck boards you will be charged for 2 pallet spaces.
Deliveries using this service usually take place 3 - 5 days after we receive your order (factory coated orders may take a little longer). We will contact you by phone to arrange a convenient delivery day. Deliveries usually take place Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.
A Saturday delivery service is available on request and subject to availability (additional charges will apply). Please contact our customer support team on T: 0151 541 5485 for a quote.
Smaller items like screws or wood finish are delivered using a reliable express parcel service. Our standard leadtime for this service is 2-3 days. Next working day delivery is also available on smaller items ordered before 11am.
Although rare, an additional charge may be payable should the delivery company require to attempt more than two deliveries of the same order.
Deliveries are often made on large vehicles. Please let us know in advance if there are any access restrictions; for example narrow streets / farm tracks, parking restrictions, road works etc which may affect delivery. Failure to notify us, in advance, of any access restrictions may result in additional delivery charges and / or an inability to fulfil the delivery.
To keep delivery charges to a minimum, goods are manually offloaded from the delivery vehicle. Someone must be on-site to sign for the delivery and to assist with the offload. If your order contains large lengths of timber you may need additional people on hand to help. As with most companies delivering building materials, delivery obligation ends at the kerbside.
If you would prefer to arrange your own haulage or collect in person please let us know. Collection is from either our Widnes (Cheshire) or Harmondsworth (W. London) branch. We can schedule in your collection so that your goods are picked and packed in advance and our warehouse team can assist in loading your vehicle promptly.
As orders may need to be processed, picked and packed from multiple locations we are unfortunately unable to offer a 'Click & Collect' service.
Customers will be contacted to arrange a convenient date and time for collection.

This product is FSC certified.
FSC is a world-wide, independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation representing environmental and social groups and the timber and forestry industry. It aims to generate certification of forestry activity that incorporates clear guidelines and standards covering social, environmental and economic aspects of forest management.
Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives of the last decade to promote responsible forest management worldwide.
The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment, as well as providing ongoing business value.
Chain of Custody (CoC)
The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification system provides an audit trail from forest to final use. The rigour of the system is ensured by regular independent inspection at all stages in the supply chain.
FSC chain of custody (CoC) tracks FSC certified material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.
Only FSC CoC certified operations are allowed to label products with the FSC trademarks. The FSC label thus provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.
